
Students from T.G. Masaryka, Moravské Budějovice, Czech Republic have been working on project mission “New Park” as part of their PULCHRA project.
PULCHRA is an EU funded project with partners from ten nations. It encourages and supports students in urban schools to investigate environmental and sustainability issues in their localities with a focus on the topic “Cities as urban ecosystems”.
They will do this through:
The project has identified several common issues/opportunities that European cities face due to increased urbanization. These are environmental, social and economic in nature.
In response the project partners designed specific ‘challenges’ for participating schools to explore. These will:
City Challenges have been designed to link with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere.
1. Powering Cities without Harming the Climate
2. Buildings for the Future City
3. Regenerating Urban Space to Connect People in a Healthy Environment
4. From waste disposal to Resource Efficiency – Circular Economy at the City Scale
Mixed Science Teams consisting of teachers, other stakeholders, and students explore and disseminate City Challenges information and results.
A City Challenges Platform has been set up to facilitate the learning and collaboration of the members of the city science teams and wider network. It includes:
The PULCHRA App is designed for anyone who is interested in the project. It includes information on the City Challenges and provides access to project-related topics.
City Science Reporters are selected students from the Science Team that will create communications on the project and its results.
