This year marks the 52nd International Earth Day with the theme “Invest in our planet!”.
An online event with teachers, students and experts took place on 21 April as part of the PULCHRA project. Each science team had prepared a special greeting on Earth Day and invited everyone to remember and appreciate the Earth and all it gives us.
Inese Kivleniece, a researcher at the University of Daugavpils, introduced students with the possibilities of involvement in field research related to the collection of biodiversity data in the urban environment. Students can volunteer as well as develop their own research that contributes to science.
Anna Gailīte, a policy officer minister from the Ministry of the Ecological Transition (France) the innovations of the circular economy in France. We learned about the obstacles that need to be overcome in order to promote the development of the circular economy.
At the end of the presentation, participants shared ideas on what needs to be improved in the urban environment to use resources more sparingly. The students suggestions showed that we all need to think about responsible shopping, sorting waste and repairing things to ensure the sustainability of cities.
